FORMER national champion Emma Katto has shown his eagerness to end a 27-month victory drought by becoming the first entrant for the Castrol Independence rally October 26-27.

FORMER national champion Emma Katto has shown his eagerness to end a 27-month victory drought by becoming the first entrant for the Castrol Independence rally October 26-27.
Katto’s new navigator Rwabwogo Busingye handed in their entry on Monday. The EMKA Rally Team will this weekend go route reccing in Mukono, Jinja, Mayuge, Iganga and Kamuli Districts.
“Emma is returning from UK tomorrow (today), we will have enough time for recce. The car (Toyota Celica ST185) is in good condition, and if it remains intact throughout the rally there is no doubt we will produce good results,” Rwabwogo said.
Katto won the highly contested 1998 edition of the rally when he beat Charles Muhangi, the national champion at the time, by one minute.
William Blick, who dropped out the TOTAL Pearl of Africa rally last month, also registered yesterday.
The rally’s Media Relations Officer Juma Nkambwe said that many drivers including the top guns have hinted at registering this week.
Castrol Uganda has sponsored the UMC- organised rally that is the last National Rally Championship event on the 2002 calendar.
South African Airways, Jovenna, IT Solutions, Sheraton Kampala Hotel, Pepsi, Fire Masters and Dembe FM are co-sponsors.
