Richard Nduhura, the state minister for industry and technology, has advised the Uganda National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (UNCCI) to adopt a new leadership code of ethics to end wrangles that formerly characterised chamber affairs.
“We are not interested in seeing wrangles in UNCCI. I don’t know why there are wrangles in your institution. Our intention is to see one united vibrant chamber. Practice true democracy so that when you are defeated accept and wait for the next election,” Nduhura said recently during the swearing-in of the new executive.
He also urged them to master Information Communication technology (ITC) that can enable them pass information to their members.
In her speech, the UNCCI president Olive Kigongo promised to transform UNCCI into a vibrant institution capable of rendering services to its members.
“I Olive Zaitun Kigongo promise to work closely with the members of the board to unite the business community in Uganda to promote trading in agriculture, manufacturing, transport, insurance, banking tourism,” she declared.
“Our strategy lies in the teamwork, transparency, tapping only the positive past and innovating new ways of doing things,” she said.
She said the new leadership has a challenge of transforming its image from that of the past and to make the chamber into a useful and competent organisation.
