Kanungu LC5 chairperson Josephine Kasya has said HIV/AIDS is the second killer disease in the area after malaria.
She said this recently while launching the district network of people living with HIV/AIDS at the district administration’s headquarters.
The network was initiated by the National Guidance And Empowerment Network of people living with HIV/AIDS in Uganda (NGEN).
“25% of people have tested positive but these are the ones re corded at health centres, the number could be more,” she said.
NGEN national coordinator Major Rubaramira Ruranga called for a vigorous campaign for the availability of condoms in the district.
The district health visitor Kanungu, sister Florence Rwabahima, said the number of HIV positive people was on the increase.
She said plans were underway to establish HIV testing centres in Katete LCIV health centre, Kambuga hospital and Kihiihi.
