INSPITE of several years of HIV/AIDS sensitisation, the fishing communities on landing sites around Lake Victoria and Kisima Islands in Jinja district are ignorant about the condom and how it is used.
They said although they had known about HIV/AIDS, they had not seen a condom because no organisation had bothered to sensitise them about its use.
The fishermen were speaking during a seminar to sensitise them on HIV/AIDS on Tuesday. Over 50 excited participants scrambled for condoms during a demonstration on how to use the male and female condoms.
A fisherman, Joshua Isabirye said most of the fishing communities were illiterate or semi-illiterate and could not read magazines or attend seminars.
