As the Wandegeya traffic lights turn red, the motorists in the lanes turn left to stare at the magnificent wheels parked at IB Supermarket. She is a metallic silver Volkswagen Golf TDI, prettier than some of the faces at this year’s Miss Uganda beauty pageant. She is German-made and behind the wheel is a prettier face. Their eyes turn away, when the light turns green and they have to cruise down Bombo Road.
There was a time everything nice belonged to men including chicken thighs, grasshoppers, and most certainly, cars. Now is the era for women to man posh cars. As you walk along the Kampala Road, chances are high that you will see more women driving than men. No ordinary car, they are pushing machines that make heads turn. Even a crazy taxi driver will not dare drive close by, for the fear of scratching their delicate and attractive taillight.
We bring you women with the coolest wheels in town. All their cars shoot above the sh10m mark. They are unique cars not the kind you will hire after shopping at Nakasero market. Personal cars, not officals cars please. Sorry lady MPs, we chose to leave you out of our survey.

Leila Kalemera, IB Supermarket Wandegeya.
She now drives a posh German car after the goons took away her all stunning Toyota Rav 4 at gunpoint four years ago. She once owned a maroon Golf. The car she drives now was ordered from Germany with her own specifications. “I ordered it myself. It took six months to arrive,” she reveals. She got the machine about two years ago. The five-gear 2000 model elegant instrument can reach a top speed of 220km/h. Mind you, it is a diesel engine.
“I love this car because of its body. It’s also very stable on the road,” Kalemera says of her manual transmission agile auto. The headlights of this car make staring a hobby. All the indicators and parking lights are built in one. When she switches them on, looking at it becomes a real lifetime understanding.
The 1896 cubic capacity (cc) has got refined black leather seats. The four-seater has a very effective sound system. The left-hand driven automobile has got sporty original reams, making it stable on the road. “I fear mad drivers so I have to be extra careful,” she says.

Olive Zaitun Kigongo, president, Uganda Chambers of Commerce and Industry.
The Range Rover 4.6 HSE 1999 model, is one sporty utility vehicle that stands out from the rest. As you turn the key to ignite its 240 horsepower engine, one cannot help but be elated. This wagon has got a very sensitive 'erection.' Every time it is turned on, it automatically raises itself up. When it reaches the 100km/h mark, the 'erection' cools down giving it unprecedented stability on the road. This vehicle can be raised and lowered over a five-inch plus range. The full ground clearance levels are maintained regardless of the load.
It can go through Africa's bad bumpy roads with ease. Of course it is a 4X4. “I like the comfort it has and of course the high clearance it has got,” the cute Kigongo says.
Well, it’s a comfortable mile eater that can take you to as far as Masindi within one hour. Its brown leather seats make the four occupants luxuriate in sheer calm. The automatic transmission petrol engine sport has got a 11-speaker-6-disk sound system. The driver can select the type of music to listen to by a simple touch of a button on the steering wheel. Whenever she decides to engage the reverse gear, the rear view mirrors that are heated tilt down automatically.
Before you drive off, it warns you of the seatbelts, in case they have not been employed for your safety purposes. This left-hand drive thing has an infrequent nice blue colour with two bright spotlights at its front. The original sporty reams are still in place.

Morine Wavamunno, Executive Director, Spear House Limited.
You have probably seen it. It is the only one in the East African region. Now you get the chance to know the details. She drives a CL 500. This is an extraordinary Alexanderight green coupe from the Mercedes Benz family. Everywhere it passes, folks turn heads.
It has got the Active Body Control system that maintains it on same level giving the driver more control. In just 5.8 seconds, it reaches the 100km/h mark. Its top speed is electronically controlled to 260km/h. However, with special Y-rating tyres, it can move to beyond 320km/h. In other words, you can reach Arua within two hours.
It has a keyless system, part of its very sensitive intelligence system that can easily beat the FBI. It senses the driver. If she comes close, the doors get unlocked. As she leaves, all the windows that have not been properly shut do it automatically.
It has a six-CD changer. The music increases when the environment becomes noisy. It has automatic wipers in case the windscreens get wet and its strong bi-xenon headlights get on every time it becomes dark.
Morine does not worry about parking because her car has sensors that show you how close you are to the object.
This beauty can manoeuvre through any terrain. She can simply press the button for it to rise upwards in case of a bumpy road. When she feels insecure, she can as well press the button for it to get stable on the road. On a slippery terrain, there is another command for it to get firmer on the ground. The Wavah 2000 license plated vehicle, was given to Morine as her millennium gift. “I won't tell you the person who gave it to me. It is very comfortable and safe. It has all the necessities of a beautiful car," she says of her car.
Its safety detail comprises of four airbags. The air-conditioned, both automatic and manual transmission precious piece has got extra strong windows and screens than can remain in place in case of a nasty accident. "Those laminated windows can't get shattered by anything," she reveals.

It has got nice leather seats, a powerful sound system and “its fuel consumption is extremely low,” she further reveals.

Sarah Kizito, Lady Charlotte Fashions.
There are less than 10 of them in the country. She is one of the few who own a Toyota Lexus RX 300. This lady surely has a sense of style and class. It is a wagon with an irreplaceable golden colour. It has a cruise information screen that tells you everything about it and the surrounding environment. It has a button that makes it firm on slippery roads. The powerful JBL speakers blare out music better than those discotheques in Industrial Area.
This is a classy model 2000 but she has only been with it for three months. Its real cloth seats complete with armrests for the four 'residents' make the ride more pleasurable.
"I love its beauty and performance," Kizito answers when asked what she likes most about her car.
Kizito says the headlight designs are simply fantastic. “I marvel at these lights every time I look at them. Look at the taillights, they are just wonderful," she says, pointing on the rear designs that explain the Japanese magic and vividness.

Gladys Mukula, Director George Michael Fashions.
Her white Land Cruiser Prado is unique. From inside, you can sunbathe. It has a sunroof that can work as an open roof as well. It has a CD player, a distinctive television set and it is an all-weather road utility vehicle. At a top speed, this vehicle can be pushed to Masaka in less than one hour.
“I like the way it cruises and the fuel consumption. I have been driving it for the last four years. I love four wheels and my dream car is the ML 320 Mercedes,” she reveals.

Charm Hirji
There are less than four ML-55 AMG models in this country. The tycoon's first lady drives the metallic red one. Everyday, as she parks it at one of their plush hotels, all the folks drool. This is the fastest 4X4 in the whole world. It needs only six seconds to reach the 100km/h mark. It can go at an unstoppable speed of 260km/h.
It beats the BMW X5 and the Range Rover 4.6 HSE in almost everything. It can easily negotiate the sharpest corner in the world at its top speed and stay on the road. This wagon, in its category is definitely the ideal top range machine ever invented on earth.

Dr. Julie Bataringaya Ssekyanzi
Hers is a pretty A-class Mercedes. She is the only lady who drives this rare German invention in Uganda. Within 15.1 seconds, this roadster reaches the 100km/h-speed mark swallowing 220km/h. There are only 800,000 units in the whole world and the doc cruises one.
It has got an Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) that reduces the risk of skidding by applying the brake at one or more wheels and increasing or reducing the engine output as required.
In case of accident, the seatbelts pull the taut across the body. With more money, she can easily order for rain sensors, when activated, they recognise how wet the windscreen is and adjust the wiper frequency accordingly. The A-faced class is just graceful.

Jyotsna Ruparelia
With a simple touch of a button the Mercedes Benz SLK roof gives way making sunbathing a real lifetime experience no vehicle can match. This sporty single door makes driving a game of fun.
