PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni, who is also the commander-in-chief of the UPDF has been hailed by the residents of Otwal sub-county in Apac district for ousting the Lord’s Resistance Army rebels from the area, enabling them to return home, reports Justin Moro.

“We thank President Museveni for having deployed many UPDF soldiers in our area and flushed the LRA rebels out of the area hence allowing us to go back to our homes. There is now peace, thanks for the efforts of the UPDF but we call upon the President to maintain the UPDF presence in our area to avoid LRA rebels sneaking back from Gulu district and terrorise us,” Ojok, an elder said.

Apac resident district commissioner Drani Dradriga told The New Vision that over 30 people were killed, over 100 huts burnt and many people abducted when the rebels entered Otwal sub-county from Gulu district.

He said over 10,000 residents were displaced following the attacks.

Museveni recently sent in extra UPDF troops to fight the LRA rebels in Apac and Lira districts.
