EXPRESS FC have opted for the CAF Cup giving Police a wild card to the Cup Winners Cup.

FUFA secretary Haruna Mawanda yesterday told the weekly Nile Special Super League press conference at Lugogo that the runners up in both league and cup competitions had written to them opting to play the CAF Cup in 2003.

Police was thereby considered for the Cup Winners Cup as a best loser in the semi-final. League and cup winners SC Villa will play in the Champions League.

The national U-23 squad, The Kobs, with Paul Hasule as head coach, meanwhile enter residential camp today at Lugogo, to prepare for the November-December CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup and All Africa Games qualifiers.

The technical committee had called both Kobs and Cranes players to start training but teams’ co-ordinator Henry Buyego said that only the U-23 squad will enter camp.

“They are the ones going to play in the two tournaments,” he said.

Coach Paul Hasule had earlier preferred a junior team for the challenge cup as a way of grooming youngsters for Cranes and was happy with the decision.

“There is very little change. Most Cranes players are U-23’s,” he said.

U-23 stars Ben Lwanga, Simeon Masaba, Sam Mubiru, Emmanuel Balyejusa Wasswa Bbosa and Geoffrey Sserunkuma were on the just concluded Castle Cup team.

Meanwhile, Nile Breweries will today host FUFA to a cocktail party at Grand Imperial Hotel to officially hand over Castle Cup cash.

Sh32.7m in match appearance fees and winners prize will be handed over on top of players and team officials walking off with sh0.5m each as bonus for finishing second.
