A female LRA commander, a field-commanding officer identified as Lt. Kipwala and his aide, Cpl. Lakere Obole, were on Friday killed by UPDF troops.
The army also recovered one machinegun from the unidentified female leader in a battle at Lamogi sub-county in Kilak county, Gulu district.
The UPDF fourth Division spokesman in Gulu, Lt. Paddy Ankunda, said the female commander was killed in the battle which started at 11:00am.
Three magazines of SMG bullets were recovered, the spokesman said.
Ankunda said 21 goats and various food items were recovered by the UPDF in another battle at Pabbo sub-county in Kilak county.
Another rebel was reportedly killed in a battle between Atiak and Bibia in Atiak sub-district in Gulu district on Friday.
The UPDF recovered 10 boxes of assorted drugs, according to local security sources at Lamogi.
One rebel surrendered with one captive during another battle in Pabbo on Friday. Another captive also reported to the UPDF at Patongo town in Pader district on the same day.
Meanwhile, the UPDF killed 12 rebels and recovered seven guns at Agengo in Obolokome parish, Lira-Palwo sub-county, Agago county in Pader district. The rebels killed two UPDF soldiers and injured four others.
Pader district LC5 chairman Edwin Yakobo Komakech yesterday said the rebels, who had just completed their security meeting at Olam in Pader sub-county on Saturday, were taken by surprise.
Komakech said the UPDF laid a tight ambush for the rebels as they dispersed after the meeting.
“The rebels thought the UPDF had not been deployed in the Lira Palwo areas. I was informed that in their meeting at Olam, they plotted to massacre civilians displaced at Lira Palwo sub-county headquarters. The rebels could have killed many people at the camp,” he said. Ends
