CHURCH leaders have asked the Government to involve a third party in the negotiations between the LRA rebel leader, Joseph Kony and the peace team appointed by President Yoweri Museveni.

“We appreciate the Government’s efforts to end the conflict in the north through peaceful negotiations.

However, the Government should involve the Church and other civil society organisations including the international community,” a statement issued by Church of Uganda bishops said.

“The Church further urges the Lords Resistance Army to reciprocate the government’s gesture and name their peace negotiation team,” the statement added.

The bishops issued the statement recently, after a four-day meeting held at Lweza Conference Centre on Entebbe Road, near Kampala.
