KAMPALA — The trial of the National Insurance Corporation (NIC) chief executives on charges of causing financial loss in the presidential jet deal, starts on January 22. The accused, Samwiri Sebuwufu, the executive director and the assistant manager, Kaawa Byaruhanga appeared in court on Tuesday Prosecution asked for a hearing date to be fixed, saying the investigations were complete.

Energy saving group launched
KAMPALA — Saving power is the only way energy services can reach more consumers in all sectors of the economy, the state minister for energy, Daudi Migereko, said. He was launching the East African Energy Conservation Alliance on Tuesday. He said the Government had embarked on a rigorous campaign to extend modern services to the rural areas. The alliance executive director, Margaret Masette, said their primary objective was to promote development.

Fraud case trial fixed
KAMPALA — The trial of a city businessman alleged to have fraudulently obtained sh500m from Standard Chartered Bank starts on November 22. George Barenzi, 35, of Entebbe, faces charges of theft, forgery and obtaining cash by false pretence. The money was in Cairo International Bank cheques, each worth sh250m. He will appear before the Buganda Road Chief Magistrate, Frank Othembi.
