Police $7m building hits snag

THE construction of the US$7m Police headquarters has hit a snag.

THE construction of the US$7m Police headquarters has hit a snag.

Steven Candia reports that the ground-breaking ceremony for the headquarters of the nearly 100-year old force, slated to take place late this year in Naguru, a city suburb, has been postponed.

The complex is to be constructed on the former Police airstrip in Naguru on which some unipots have been built.

“When the idea was first mooted and the consultants given the work, it was by way of mouth with nothing written,” the Inspector General of Police, Maj. Gen. Katumba Wamala, said yesterday.

“We had to follow the stipulations laid out and the bureaucracy which takes a long time. So somewhere down the road, the project hit a snag. It is a process set by the Government,” he said.

He added, “But you must realise this is not a small project which anyone will like to get into without proper documents.”

He said despite the snag, the process was on with the drawing plans, surveys and other documents almost ready.
