POLICE Constable Rashid Okao has beaten thousands of his colleagues to scoop the Kampala Best Policeman Award, sponsored by Uganda Breweries and Capital Radio.
Okao, who is based at Mulago Hospital’s Casualty Police Post, was voted best Policeman by Capital Radio listeners in a radio call-in programme on Friday.
People in different professions and walks of life have been recognised and awarded by the two companies for exemplary service. The winners are picked in similar call-in programmes by Capital Radio listeners who vote over a period of two weeks.
For his good work, Okao gets a sh250,000 award from Uganda Breweries Pilsner lager brand and a Certificate of Recognition from Capital Radio.
Okao has a wife and four children. He lives at Wandegeya Police Barracks. He polled close to 2,000 votes from people who described him as a hardworking, incorruptible, fair and helpful Policeman.
Okao, who is a Muslim, said the recognition from a beer company did not affect his faith. He said he remains a Muslim.
He joined the Police Force in 1989 and worked in various parts of the country.
Pilsner Lager Brand Manager Gunilla Ouko said, “We at Pilsner Lager have continued to recognise everyday people. We are recognising their striving spirit. They work hard and give their best. They strive and keep their flame burning. They never give up. That is the Pilsner Lager spirit.” Ends
