There will be wild celebrations tomorrow night at Club Silk as the Club’s executive wing celebrates its sixth anniversary. The highlight of this year’s celebrations will be the unveiling of a new bar, said to be designed to international standards within Silk Royale; the opening of an internet Café and the installation of new interior décor and upholstery.
Andrew Kaffoko, Club Silk’s marketing manager, says as usual one of the night’s major attractions will be performances by local artists, chief among whom will be Jose Chameleon of Dorotia fame and Romeo Akiiki, whose latest single No Parking has received a lot of rotation lately.
Kaffoko says the new bar will be opened before 11:00pm and therefore the usual free drinks at the entrance will be available for patrons who come in before that time. But those will not be the only freebies on the house. Benson & Hedges will be distributing various presents to invited guests as a token of appreciation for their support through Silk Royale, one their major outlets.
Kaffoko says invited guests will include club loyals, sponsors of different theme nights, the media and all those who can afford to pay the usual fee at the entrance. Kaffuko explained that Silk Royale and Club Silk are two clubs in one, but said they will follow the same programme during the celebrations: “As usual, whatever happens in Silk Royale upstairs will happen down in Club Silk as well. We shall have the much coveted cake cut between 11.00pm and midnight in both clubs. The artists will also perform in both places,” he says.
And the music: “Due to differences in the clientele for both places, we shall play different types of music that suit each group.”
Club Silk started operating on 1st Street in Industrial Area in 1994. Two years down the road, there grew a certain class of young adults who increasingly showed the desire to be separated from the much younger patrons. A lot of pressure was exerted on management to separate the two classes of patrons by creating an executive wing. This gave birth to Silk Royale.
Today both clubs have different age requirements for their patrons and the charges are much less in Club Silk. Ends
