UGANDA’s newly refurbished Kyadondo rugby ground will not host the Bell Uganda Cup finals set for this Saturday contemplating on the nature of the pitch currently.
MTN Heathens will play against Underwriters Kobs in a do-or-die final of the annual event now at Kampala Rugby Union Football Club (KRUFC).
“URFU has decided to stage the finals of the Bell Uganda Cup at Kampala ground to avoid any eventualities of untimely rains,” said Herbert Wafula.
Kyadondo pitch has been affected by the El-nino rains making it quite uncomfortable for players during a match.
“I believe we tried our best to put opposition across the hosts but we were forced into errors by the rain soaked pitch that day,” a player for Hima Impis lamented.
Makerere lost to the hosts 8-30 and all the players were covered with mud after playing on the pitch for 80 minutes.
Meanwhile, local development officer Yayiro Kasasa intends to introduce rugby to primary schools starting next year.
“We need to tap the talents from the grassroots and plan to spread the game to primary schools around Kampala before reaching other areas,” said Kasasa.
He also said that more secondary schools would be considered to benefit from the development plans of URFU.
