Wembley raids
KAMPALA — Operation Wembley officials yesterday opened fire as they carried out a search operation on William Street, throwing people into a panic. There was confusion as shop owners and members of the public scampered to safety during the 12:00pm incident. Heavily armed operatives sealed off the street and frisked pedestrians.

K’jong killed
PADER — A Karimojong was on Saturday killed when a small group of warriors tried to attack the UPDF military base at the Latanya hills in Acholibur sub-county, Aruu county, about 15 miles southeast of Kitgum town. Kitgum Resident District Commissioner Lt. Santo Okot-Lapolo said there were less than 10 warriors in the attack.
12 arrested
JINJA — The Police are holding 12 people in connection with the theft of hardware merchandise worth sh39m. They allegedly struck the shelter Uganda Company limited warehouse on Oboja road, in the wee hours of Sunday morning. They are said to have stolen iron sheets, barbed wire, wire mesh and 168kgs of nails.

Nigerian fined
KAMPALA — A Nigerian woman was yesterday sentenced to a sh80,000 fine or one-month imprisonment for substituting a passport photograph. Vivian Mbunard alias Sandra Kayitesi, 26, a student of Namkdi Azikwe University in Awko, Nigeria, was convicted at Nakawa Court after she pleaded guilty to the charges.
