THE Government is to spend sh3.3b before March 2003 to implement the Plan for Modernisation of Agriculture (PMA), reports Charles Ariko.
Kibirige Ssebunya, the minister of state for agriculture, said the money would be used in the management and monitoring of a three-year-old project in 24 districts.
He said the government had spent sh1.3b in implementing the project this year.
Ssebunya was on Thursday officiating at the Fourth PMA Forum to review the implementation of the project at Hotel Equatoria in Kampala.
NGO’s and technical staff in-charge of PMA at national and district levels were present.
“My ministry and other PMA relevant ministries are currently looking at research and rural financial services aimed at increasing the availability of productivity-enhancing technologies,” he said.
Ssebunya said successful implementation of the PMA depended on stakeholders who included ministries, local governments, the private sector and research institutions.
Dr. Willie Odwongo, the director PMA Secretariat, said several activities were carried out to implement the project.
