A TOTAL of 68 Hutu refugees from Rwanda are stranded at Rakai Police without food and other essentials, writes Eddie Ssejjoba.
The District Special Branch Officer, Dennis Ssebugwawo, told The New Vision that the group was held at the Mutukula border Police post. They fled refugee camps in Tanzania.
Most of them are children of tender age. Ssebugwawo said five Burundi nationals, including three children, two men and an expectant mother were also held at Kalisizo Police station.
He said the Police intercepted the refugees as they attempted to enter border villages.
Ssebugwawo said a few of them had money and had been seen in several areas looking for food.
He said some of them claimed to have come from Byumba in Rwanda.
