SHELL Uganda yesterday unveiled a sh30m sponsorship deal for the second edition of the U-16 football tournament.

The firm’s country chairman Ivan Kyayonka, said at the tournament launch in Kampala that the deal covers one year. The event starts December 28.

The Friends of Football (FOF) organised community based event covers Kampala, Jinja and Masaka districts.

FOF, formed in 1997, goes a step ahead after putting in place solid competitions for U-12 and U-14 categories.

“The new event will draw players from the first two categories which will foster the process of tapping more talent,” Kyayonka said.

“The tournament also aims at helping children from less privileged backgrounds exercise their skills.”

Kyayonka said the winning team would attract a project in their area.

“The community will choose a project that will be sponsored by Shell,” he said.

FOF boss Robert Aloro said: “Shell’s gesture provides a bright future for Ugandan football.”

The event will start with preliminaries, progressing to a champions league phase before the final.
