SC Villa capped a fruitful year with a double victory party held at the outside ground of Mandela National Stadium, Namboole Saturday
The national champions used the occasion to unveil their plans for the challenging season ahead and the forthcoming CECAFA Club Championships scheduled for January in Kampala.
The ceremony, that was graced by FUFA vice presidents, Godfrey Kwizera and John Semanobe plus Prince Khalifan Kakungulu on behalf of the Kakungulu family, was in recognition of Villa’s all-conquering domestic performance last season.
Both old and newly-acquired players were introduced to the fans. The former were later rewarded with presents for a mission accomplished.
Speaking at the function, various SC Villa administrators, led by president Franco Mugabe reiterated their desire to strengthen their strangle-hold on local soccer and promised that after January, the CECAFA cup would be added to their trophy cabinet.
They further expressed their conviction to challenge for continental honours in next year’s CAF Champions League, promising fans that with their coach, Micho Sredojevich, Villa would reach the money-minting group stages.
Fans’ co-ordinator, Siraje Mbuga took the opportunity to rubbish Express’ claims that Villa was destabilising their camp.
Mbuga invited the FUFA executive to institute a comprehensive investigation in these “excuses for our rival’s failures”.
“We, at Villa, while basking in glory of our accomplishments over the years would like FUFA to fully investigate the claims from our rivals that our achievements were through crook and foul play,” he said.
The acrimonious feelings between the two giants were exhibited when Mugabe was presented with a walking stick for his contribution, upon which club supporters asked him to employ it in whipping Express FC chairman, Godfrey Kirumira, into submission off pitch. Ends
