ADMINISTRATORS of tertiary institutions transferred from former relevant parent ministries to the Ministry of Education and Sports, have asked government to expedite their restructuring and streamline funding to improve their performance and efficiency.
They said government grants through the education ministry were irregular and inadequate yet their former parent ministries were no longer catering for their needs.
The administrators, who included principles and chairpersons of the governing boards, made the recommendations during a workshop at Crested Crane Hotel, Jinja recently.
The workshop was aimed at gathering views from the heads of the institutions on the restructuring scheme.
A total of 44 tertiary institutions which were transferred to Ministry of Education early last year, attended the workshop.
They expressed concern that some of the institutions had no legal status save for constitutions put in place by their boards. Ends
