Christians on Wednesday thronged the home of Rev. Jackson Nzerebende on Kamaiba Hill Road, northwest of Kasese town centre, on hearing that he had been named bishop-elect for South Rwenzori Diocese, reports John Nzinjah.
Nzerebende, 45, is to replace the Rt. Rev. Zebedee Masereka who retires in August next year after heading the diocese since its birth in 1982. He was named bishop-elect on Tuesday by the house of bishops of the Church of Uganda at a meeting at Namirembe in Kampala.
He has been serving as a cathedral dean since August.
In an interview with The New Vision on Wednesday, he thanked the House of Bishops for putting confidence in him to serve the people of God.
“God has heard my prayers. I am determined to serve his people,” he said. Nzerebende has a bachelors degree in education from Makerere University and a degree in theology from Christian University, Mukono.
He was born at Kalonge, Kasese district on June 22, 1957. Ends
