PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni has directed the Police to pay attention to fraud in order to protect the country’s future.

He said this at the pass-out of the first intake of A’ level probationary Police constables on Saturday at the Police Training School, Masindi.

About 501 constables, 66 of them women, completed a nine-month training course.
Mr. Eriya Kategaya, the first deputy premier and internal affairs minister, senior Police and army officers and district leaders attended.

Museveni said by fighting financial crime, the Police would be protecting the country’s development goals. He also urged the judiciary to play a supportive role but said some court decisions were unfair to investors.

“If you don’t fight fraud, companies will not thrive and Uganda will not be attractive to investors. You should support the development goals of this country. I don’t want to say support the Movement because some people do not like it,” Museveni said.

A State House statement signed by Venarato Keya of the Presidential Press Unit, said the President hailed the Police for introducing new subjects in their syllabus.

The new subjects include political education, human rights, crime prevention, customer care and military training.

He congratulated the Police constables upon the completion of their training, but cautioned them to guard against HIV/AIDS pandemic.

Kategaya said the training was part of the Government’s commitment to professionalism.
The Inspector General of Police, Maj. Gen. Katumba Wamala, advised the constables to guard against corruption, drunkenness and indiscipline.

He warned Police officers against taking courses irrelevant to the Police Force.
