THE family of the late Kabaka of Buganda, Sir Edward Muteesa, is seeking to reposess 643 acres of prime land at Mutungo and Luzira, which reportedly belonged to the king.
The property MRV 962 Folio 19 of 643 acres is currently owned by Dr. Kasasa alias Mohammad Buwule.
The family has asked Sebalu and Lule Advocates, a Kampala firm, to start legal proceedings to recover the land.
The legal action was demanded by Princess Dorothy Nassolo and Prince David Kintu Wassajja, a letter dated November 11 said.
“We require Dr. Kasasa to explain how he came into possession of the said land. The resolution of this matter has long been over due because of the uncertainty surrounding the royal family’s affairs, the political instability during the time that the various transfers were executed and the fact that most of the beneficiaries of the estate were in exile until recently,” the statement read.
The family also questions how Buwule got a title for the said land.
They told The New Vision that there are two titles for the same piece of land, bearing the same Mailo register Volume 962 and folio number 19 registered on the same day.
One land title is in favour of Lake View Properties Ltd. (LVPL) and the other in Muteesa’s names.
“This raises questions as to the authenticity of the registration.
‘The acquisition by Sir Edward Muteesa of this land was properly documented and there is no indication at all in the land registry that he transferred it,” the statement read.
The lawyers argue that at the time of winding up of the LVPL in 1978, it owned no assets and it could not have carried on any business at at all during its existence.
‘This confirms that LVPL could not have owned the land,’ they argued. Ends
