KOREAN pastor Nyang Sak Park, who was arrested on suspicion of being involved in child ritual murder and cannibalism, has been released on Police bond.
Kampala’s regional CID chief Moses Sakira said yesterday, “We released and gave him a Police bond on Monday. However, he is supposed to keep reporting to Old Kampala Police station as we handle the allegations against him.”
Old Kampala Police Station sources said the bond was granted after investigations failed to find evidence of murder and cannibalism.
Park, who heads Mercy Ministries, was picked on Sunday from Lungujja, a city suburb, where he and his sister Rachael Park run an orphanage.
Kampala Police chief Ahmed Wafuba said the Police were trying to establish if Park’s organisation was registered. Sources, however, said Park was also being investigated for illegal stay in Uganda and other crimes.
Sakira quoted Park as saying in the picture recovered by detectives, he was simply anointing the child.
The Police have now got the child and have taken a statement from the eight year-old girl, said to have been assaulted.
The Korean community in Uganda has protested Park’s arrest, saying he is not a cannibal or killer. The Korean Consul in Nairobi, Jinwook Hong, said the Korean community was disappointed by the story and the charge was not supported by evidence. Ends
