By William Muwonge SC Villa will step up their CECAFA Club Cup plans by taking residential training sessions beginning Sunday. The team had on Tuesday started double training sessions at Mandela national stadium, Namboole. "Starting residential training is my next plan, there is still a lot to be done," team coach Paul Hasule (right) said yesterday. Villa, seeking a second CECAFA title after their 1987 triumph, will begin their campaign on January 22. The national champions meet Sudanese giants El Merreikh, the team they beat in the 1987 final in Kampala. Villa's opponents in group B in Mombasa are National Police Force from Djibouti, Eritrea's Red Sea and Kenya's second team Oserian Fastac. Tusker, the champions and host team leads group A in Nairobi. Other teams are Vital'O of Burundi, St. George from Ethiopia, Rwanda's APR and Somalia's Elman. Hasule said the absence of seven of his players training with the national team is affecting his plans. The players are Timothy Batabaire, Hakim Magumba, Andrew Mukasa, Hussein Mbalangu, Robert Tumusiime, Nestroy Kizito and Hannington Kalyesubula. Hasule will have the players back after Cranes' Nations Cup game against Senegal on January 13. "The players will join their colleagues a few days to our first match in Mombasa but I will plan accordingly," Hasule said. In the meantime, the club chiefs are holding meetings to plan team's final assault on the event. Villa lost in the 1999 final to Tanzania's Young Africans. Ends.
