By Geoffrey Kamali HEAVY gunfire rocked Kayunga town on Saturday morning after the Police foiled an armed robbery and gunned down six suspected bandits. A UPDF soldier, Pte. Katende, was rushed to Mbuya Military Hopsital in Kampala after he was severely injured when the thugs grabbed a gun and shot at the Police. The area CID chief, Angello Okello, said a sub-machinegun with 31 bullets and a gateway commuter van were recovered from the gunmen after the shootout. Documents found on the thugs identified them as Henry Tagola of Buwenge north and brother to a Police driver, Kaduli of Naguru Police barracks. Others were Moses Lule of Nakawa trading centre, a Matovu of Kawempe, Abdu Musoke of Nakawa, both city suburbs. One was unidentified. "We gave them a chase, so they abandoned their vehicle, stopped and jumped out and started firing at us. We fired back and killed them," Okello said. The gunmen had tried to rob an unspecified amount of money from Ugacof branch in Kayunga town. Okello said one of the injured gunmen attempted to flee after the exchange but was caught by residents and killed. But eye witnesses said the suspects were initially arrested and taken to Mukono Police station. Ends.
