THE UPDF 4th Division in Gulu has assured the people of northern Uganda that there has been no fresh influx of LRA rebels into the country from Sudan.

By Justin Moro THE UPDF 4th Division in Gulu has assured the people of northern Uganda that there has been no fresh influx of LRA rebels into the country from Sudan. This was revealed by the Regional Reserve Force Commander, Northern, Col. Julius Oketta, during a press briefing at the UPDF 4th Division barracks in Gulu last weekend. Oketta was reacting to reports that Joseph Kony rebels had recently entered the country from Sudan and were terrorising residents in the region. Oketta said UPDF has instead scored a number of successes against remnants of the rebels still hiding in Kitgum, Gulu and the new district of Pader. He said in the last three weeks, UPDF killed 11 LRA rebels, recovered eight guns and captured three LRA rebels. Oketta also said over 6000 bullets were recovered from the rebels. He called upon the Acholi to co-operate with the UPDF to end the war, saying their support was important. Oketta was addressing the press on behalf of the UPDF 4th division commander, brig. Henry Tumukunde. The briefing was attended by the 4th division operations and training officer, Major L'Okech and other senior 4th division officers. Ends.
