UOC plots Manchester City 2002 Club-Games strategy

Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) will next Tuesday start laying strategies for the 2002 Manchester City Commonwealth Games.

By James Bakama Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) will next Tuesday start laying strategies for the 2002 Manchester City Commonwealth Games. The initial plans will be drawn in a UOC council meeting with the 17 sports associations affiliated to the Olympic body. The meeting at the Grand Imperial Hotel starts at 2pm. UOC secretary general G. W. J. Oloka said the meeting will review past performances with an aim of making a solid program. "In order to come up with a concrete plan, we have to study our past." Preparatory committees will also be appointed. The national federations through the council will furnish UOC with an activity program for the games preparations. Reports from the ten UOC commissions will also be submitted. Commissions include those on marketing, competition secretariat, athletes and press commission. According to Oloka, Olympic preparations are also part of the agenda. "We want to start preparations as early as possible." Among UOC's obligations, is helping in preparations for events like the Olympics, Commonwealth Games and All Africa Games. The 2006 Olympics will be in Athens and the All Africa Games in 2003 in Abuja, Nigeria. Bad preparations were cited as the main reason for Uganda's poor performance in the three major events. Ends.
