LIGHT welter Kennedy Akena of KCC caused an up-set by beating national boxer Samson Okware (Lukanga) as the National Open boxing championship entered day-two at Lugogo Indoor Stadium yesterday.

By Samson Opus and Lillian Ikulumet LIGHT welter Kennedy Akena of KCC caused an up-set by beating national boxer Samson Okware (Lukanga) as the National Open boxing championship entered day-two at Lugogo Indoor Stadium yesterday. Akena making his third attempt in the event subdued Okware with hard punches to win 3-2 on points. Okware who ran out of steam in the last round becomes the second national boxer to fall out. He followed bantamweight Festus Omondi who fell to a lucky punch on Monday. In featherweight, sensation Michael Obin (Najja) out-classed Monday Richard (Bank of Uganda) forcing the referee to halt the contest in round four. A stinging jab and a 1-2 combination was a testimony of Obin's determination to replace his brother Jackson Asiku in the Bombers national squad. "I am well prepared. Nothing will stop me short of the title," said Obin, a Kololo SSS student By press time, Basajabalaba Hides and Skins (BHS) and Horizon were leading with five points, one better than KCC.
