Kibirige promises better salaries to rural teachers

PRESIDENTIAL candidate Mohammed Kibirige Mayanja has promised to introduce up-country allowance packages for teachers in rural schools to improve education there if elected.

By Abubaker Mukose PRESIDENTIAL candidate Mohammed Kibirige Mayanja has promised to introduce up-country allowance packages for teachers in rural schools to improve education there if elected. Addressing a big crowd in Buwenge and Budondo in Jinja district yesterday, Mayanja said there was need for equal distribution of qualified teachers country-wide. He said his government would offer attractive packages to teachers willing to work in rural schools. Kibirige, who addressed the gatherings in Luganda, accused incumbent President Yoweri Museveni of failing the Universal Primary Education programme. He said he was the architect of the programme, which was "copied" from his 1996 manifesto. He said the programme had been messed-up Kibirige said if elected he would introduce loan schemes to needy student joining tertiary institutions. He also promised revive co-operative unions and the Coffee Marketing Board, to control prices. Ends
