By Grace Matsiko & E. Mulondo President Yoweri Museveni has said he is not grooming his son Muhoozi Kainerugaba to succeed him as President. Speaking on Voice of Toro (VOT) radio in Fort Portal on Saturday, Museveni said Muhoozi has other ambitions different from leading the country. "People talk of Sandhurst. It is just an elementary school. They have been writing in newspapers that Muhoozi went to Sandhurst to come and succeed the father. Muhoozi has different ambitions, not even to lead a single battalion let alone the country," Museveni said. He was responding to the programme moderator, Nyakahuma Kamara, who asked about allegations that Muhoozi's joining the armed forces was to prepare him to succeed his father. "For Ugandans who don't know what it means (going to Sandhurst), they think that whoever goes to a primary school is going to be a lecturer at a university," Museveni who was accompanied by several government officials said. He said, "They don't know Sandhurst is like an elementary school of army leadership. It is prestigious yes, but it is like Kampala Parents school, a prestigious primary school." The New Vision recently run an article by a former Sandhurst lecturer explaining the course content the institution offers. On why he wants another five-year term, Museveni said he does not want to leave an army that will cause Ugandans problems. He said in the last 15 years, he tried to professionalise the army but was hampered by the Aids scourge and wars. "I had trained them but Aids set in. Many soldiers I trained died. Every year we were losing 900 soldiers, 70% of those died of Aids, 30% of accidents and others," he said. Museveni denied that Uganda killed the DRC President Laurent Kabila. He said if Uganda were to kill, it would have killed people like Obote not foreigners like Kabila. "We never killed Kabila and we cannot follow that cowardly path," he said. Ends
