By Davis Weddi and Elizabeth Kameo THREE people died early yesterday morning and nearly 30 were seriously injured when a grey Toyota pick-up truck crashed into a crowd at Kazinga zone, Namanve. The victims, said to be supporters of presidential candidate Col. Kizza Besigye were planting banana trees and pinning up Besigye posters between Bweyogerere and Seeta trading centres on the Kampala-Jinja highway. "Victims said a certain double cabin Toyota pickup going towards Seeta, turned round and intentionally drove into the crowd killing one person on the spot and injuring 23 others," Police spokesman Asuman Mugenyi said yesterday. The deputy spokesman, Eric Naigambi later told The New Vision that the vehicle involved had been identified as UAA 009Q. The Police Chief of Traffic and Road Safety Grace Turyagumanawe said his investigations had established that this vehicle was being driven by Army Private Alex Erimo. He said Erimo had gone into hiding but his boss (not named) was helping the Police to trace him. The Police yesterday identified the dead as Ivan Wafula, 20, a resident of Bweyogerere who died on the spot. The other two are Thomas Nganda, a resident of Bweyogerere and an unidentified male adult. Mugenyi said, the accident occurred at around 12:10am and the police arrived at the scene 20 minutes later. When The New Vision visited the scene, blood, shoes and pieces of clothing littered the area. Mugenyi said the number of people injured could have been even more and the Police checking if other hospitals around Kampala had admitted more victims. Eric Naigambi described the incident as "a well planned move." Ends
