SR. Justin Kyalikunda, the headmistress St. Joseph's Girls' Secondary School, Nsambya, has been posted to Mt. St. Mary's College Namagunga to replace Sr. Cephas Cormack who retired last year. The commissioner for secondary education, Mr. Yusuf Nsubuga, confirmed the posting yesterday, adding that Gayaza High School and Busoga College Mwiri would have new headteachers by next week. Gayaza's position fell vacant after Mrs. Ruth Kavuma decided to join politics while Mr. George William Semivule was transferred from Mwiri to King's College Buddo. He replaced Samuel Busulwa who retired last year. Kyalikunda has a Masters Degree in Education and was headmistress of St. Anthony Secondary School, Nkokonjeru, before coming to head Nsambya in 1996. The Education Service Commission chairman, Mr. Lubega Wagwa, told The New Vision that 167 headteachers had been appointed and were awaiting posting by the Ministry of Education and Sports. He said the first batch had finished training while the second lot of 80 would be passed out at Mukono District Farm Institute today. "We are giving them intensive training on administration, financial management and public relations. We simply do not want them to train on the job," Lubega said. The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mr. F.X. Lubanga, is expected to preside over the passing out of the new headteachers. The ministry officials say he might issue posting instructions to them during the ceremony. The Education Service Commission last year advertised 270 vacancies in the 623 government secondary schools. The applicants were subjected to oral and written interviews by the commission. Ends
