By Peter Ekarot THE Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations is pleased with revelations of Castle Lager coming to sponsor the regional tournaments. CECAFA secretary Hassan Haji told The New Vision yesterday that he was happy to learn that Castle lager would take over sponsorship of the Senior Challenge cup and club cup. "It is interesting to learn that Castle Lager would take over sponsorship of CECAFA activities. This would alleviate problems we had finding sponsors in the past," said Haji. Haji, also secretary of Kenya Football Federation said South African Breweries sponsorship of Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) Castle Lager cup would help in cementing a closer co-operation between the regional bodies. Nile Breweries Limited holds the franchise of Castle beer in Uganda and last week NBL chief executive director Henry Rudd announced that there are plans for SAB to sponsor CECAFA events. SAB intends to use flagship brand Castle lager and last October's 4-nations Castle lager cup won by Uganda was used to test the waters in East Africa. CECAFA has not named the host countries for 2002 club cup and Senior Challenge cup until they receive bids from intending hosts plus sponsorship guarantees. CECAFA had set today as the closing date for bids for the hosts of the Challenge and club cup. Executive secretary Nicholas Musonye said a new date would be set. Kenya however hosts the Youth cup in August. Ends
