Katinti takes six games to win Feb. Rapid Open

SEASONED player Shadrack Kantinti produced a brilliant display to win the February Rapid Open yesterday.

By William Muwonge SEASONED player Shadrack Kantinti produced a brilliant display to win the February Rapid Open yesterday. The national star emerged top with 6.5 points in the eight-round event held at EAGEN House, Kampala. Two other national players-Bob Bibasa and Ignatius Wanderema were joint second at 5.5 points. Moses Kawuma, Harold Wanyama and national junior champion Stephen Kawuma were a step below at 5 points. The Uganda Chess Federation (UCF) event drew over 30 players. Kantinti won six games with ease, drew one against Bibasa and lost the other to Wanderema. Bibasa and Wanderema put up a spirited fight. Each of the two players won five games, drew one and lost two. The players are now looking forward to a blitz tournament due on March 24 at EAGEN House. UCF chairman Daniel Nsibambi, said many more rapid and blitz tournaments will be held this year. "We will have either a rapid or blitz event every month," Nsibambi said. Ends
