By Ali Mao in Lira SECURITY in Olilim sub- county, Lira district has been beefed up following reports that Karimojong cattle rustlers had entered into the district, security sources have said. The Lira district internal security officer, Lt. John Erwopu, on Thursday told the New Vision that the Bokora kraal leaders identified as Okwajam of Nyakidi parish in Moroto attempted to enter Lira with their weapons recently, but were repulsed by the UPDF soldiers. "I would like to assure the local people that there is no Karimojong in Otuke county as has been alleged by the LCs of the area. "Security has been beefed up and the situation is under control," Erwopu said. He said the deployment of UPDF soldiers and LDUs was aimed at stopping the Karimojong from committing atrocities in Lira. He said the army was on the alert. "Should these people attempt to cross into Lira with their guns, they will be disarmed by force," Erwopu said. Erwopu, however, blamed the area LCs for causing alarm in the community. Karimojong kraal leaders and Lira district leaders held a meeting in February, in which they agreed to peacefully end insecurity. Lira leaders blamed the Karimojong leaders for backing the warriors. The meeting was attended by Col. Obwoya and Capt. Agong. Ends
