Brian Leather, the Mayor of Rochdale, has said Uganda is one of several countries being targeted before Manchester hosts the Commonwealth Games. Speaking to Kampala City Council members on Monday, Leather said his delegation is to meet the Minister of sports and representatives of the national council of sports to promote and foster links between Rochdale and Uganda. He said the links have been created through which Uganda can explore chances of participating in the world games due July 25 to August 4 next year. Leather also said that under the programmes Rochdale will bring in trainers to train youngsters. Meanwhile Surinders S.Biant an Education Consultant with the Rochdale Friends of East Africa said a number of schools will benefit from the co-operation between Rochdale City and Kampala. He said Rochdale city is committed to promoting and developing Ugandan sport. Meanwhile, a team of cricket players will under the inter-city friendship programme, tour Uganda starting this weekend. They will visit several cricket playing schools. The Rochdale friends of East Africa team will play Uganda A on Tuesday. The side from Manchester City will also have training sessions with various cricket playing schools during the two- week tour according to the Uganda Cricket Association release. Schools to be visited include Ndejje, Kibuli, Mwiri, Makerere College and Namilyango. Rochdale Friends of East Africa will then travel back to Jinja for a training session with Jinja cricket playing schools like Busoga College Mwiri, Kiira College Butiki, St James and Jinja SSS to be held at the Jinja cricket oval. Rochdale Friends of East Africa cricket Club is the third English side after Cavaliers Cricket Club's 1993 successful tour and Dulrich's recent tour. Ends
