THE Government has been urged to further subsidise the cost of treated (impregnated) mosquito nets.

By Vision Reporter THE Government has been urged to further subsidise the cost of treated (impregnated) mosquito nets. Speaking to health workers at the launching of the impregnated mosquito nets at Kiswa Health Centre at Nakawa, Ssebaana Kizito, the Kampala Mayor, said the cost of treated mosquito nets was still very high and unaffordable by peasants. A subsidised treated net costs sh7,000 and re-treating it costs sh5,000 per net. The Government last year scrapped taxes on mosquito nets as a strategy to control malaria. George Kibumba, an official with the Joint Medical Store, said the treated nets were less toxic than continued use of anti-malaria tablets. Ends
