FORMER presidential candidate Col. Kizza Besigye has said Ugandans should elect to parliament people who follow democratic principles and not elect them because of their political affiliation, reports Catherine Ntabadde. "You should elect MPs who follow democracy. Do not elect some one because he is a multipartyist. Multipartyists have failed for the so many years and we very well know it," he said. Besigye was on Tuesday speaking at the victory party of the LC3 chairman Makindye Division, Mr Deo Kijjambu, at Kasanga's Masana zone. Besigye said electing a person basing on political affiliation is bad because those are the very people who divert from their groups to join others. Besigye appealed to government to serve all its citizens equally if Uganda was to stay at peace. "All Ugandans should be treated equally and the President should do his work without discriminating people. That is how our country will be peaceful," he said. Makindye West MP Nsubuga Nsambu, ex-Kampala mayor Nasser Sebaggala and UYD general secretary Micheal Mabikke, attended the party. Besigye told his supporters that they should be patient and not lose hope because they still have time. Kijjambu thanked Makindye residents for voting him and promised to serve them equally. Ends
