THE chairman of the Cotton Development Organisation (CDO), Mr. Levi Okodi, has said cotton production in Lango sub- region is steadily increasing compared to other cotton growing areas. Patrick Oyee reports that Okodi said farmers in Lira and Apac districts earned sh12b from cotton last season compared to sh1b earned by all farmers from Kaberamaido, Soroti, Kumi and Katakwi during the same season. He said this at the closing of a two-week cotton production campaign in Teso sub-region on Friday. Okodi said the Iteso were poorer than the Langi because they had abandoned cotton growing. He appealed to them to revert to cotton production as a way of earning money to avert the rampant poverty. He reminded the Iteso that cotton was the only cash crop that helped them pay school fees, build good homes and buy head of cattle. Ends
