Ms. Kakai Maumbe, the Kapchorwa assistant Resident District Commissioner, has condemned the Karimojong for the continued violation of land and human rights

By Josephine Maseruka Ms. Kakai Maumbe, the Kapchorwa assistant Resident District Commissioner, has condemned the Karimojong for the continued violation of land and human rights of the Sabiny. She regretted that the Ngenge and other people in areas bordering Karamoja were always on the run. "The Karimojong are making life unbearable for these people and they cannot develop unless cattle rustling is controlled," Kakai said. She urged the Government to speed up the resettlement of the 8,000 Ndorobos (Benets), develop agriculture, health and social services and implement poverty alleviation programmes. The Ndorobos were displaced by the Government, which took over the Mt. Elgon National Park where they were living. Kakai was on Wednesday addressing residents at the launch of the Land Rights Information Centre by the Uganda Land Alliance Movement (ULA) in conjunction with Action Aid Uganda in Kapchorwa town. ActionAid Uganda also launched its five-year Strategic Paper II, which stresses policy advocacy on HIV/Aids, peace making and rehabilitation. Lyndall Stein, the International Marketing Director with Action Aid, UK, opened the centre, on behalf Ken Burneilt, the Action Aid chairman.
