VETERAN journalist and board chairman for The New Vision Corporation has promised to improve education levels in his Soroti district.

VETERAN journalist and board chairman for The New Vision Corporation has promised to improve education levels in his Soroti district. Mr. Ateker Ejalu told reporters at New Bisina Hotel in Soroti, shortly after he was nominated to contest for the Soroti county seat, that even if the status of education in Soroti was high, much more needed to be done to make it better. Ejalu was nominated together with Col. William Omaria, Charles Okoedi, Dr. Godfrey Egau, Samuel Anyollo, Peter Edeku Edopu and Martin Napoleon Oliba. After he was nominated, Ejalu drove around the town in a large convoy of vehicles and boda-bodas. He was elected unopposed in 1989 but lost his seat in 1996. "I am in politics to serve my people as there has been a big vacuum in Soroti and Teso at large," Ejalu said. About the Karimojong disarmament, Ejalu said the solution would come from not only the central government but leaders at the grassroot level should get involved to see that the problem is overcome. He said he was ready to work with others in order to protect the people and cattle of Teso against the Karimojong. "I will insist that the Government continues with the disarmament process," he said.
