THREE women went through unopposed after no one turned up to challenge them at the end of the two-day Woman MP nomination exercise yesterday.

By Vision Reporters THREE women went through unopposed after no one turned up to challenge them at the end of the two-day Woman MP nomination exercise yesterday. In Luweero, the incumbent, Prof. Victoria Mwaka, a Makerere University professor in the department of geography, was nominated around midday on Wednesday amidst chanting and drumming by hundreds of jubilant supporters. In her manifesto, she said she would work closely with the women and youth, to raise their living standards. In Mpigi district, the Minister of State for Education and Sports, Mrs. Geraldine Namirembe Bitamazire has retained her seat. Bitamazire was nominated unopposed at about 3.18 pm. Flanked by her husband, Alfonse, she chanted "Abeewo, Abeewo (let her stay)," to cheers from her supporters. In Kabale, the former Kabale Woman CA delegate, Mrs Hope Mwesigye Ruhindi, was nominated yesterday. Ruhindi, who is the executive director of Uganda Gender Resource Centre, was declared unopposed by the district returning officer, Mr. Sam Busulwa, at the district council hall. This follows the withdrawal of Norah Kagambirwa from the race, citing intimidation. Ends
