THE National Convention for Democracy (NCD), a political pressure group, has criticised President Museveni for urging the electorate not to elect multipartyists to Parliament, reports John Kakande. The chairman of NCD, DeGualle Kawuma, in a statement issued on Monday said they were dismayed by Museveni's remarks urging the electorate not to elect the multipartyists. Kawuma told The New Vision yesterday that NCD is composed of individuals who belonged to the now defunct Multiparty National Referendum Committee that campaigned for multiparty politics during last year's referendum on political systems. Kawuma said Museveni's remarks "proved and reinforced our long held contention that the Movement is a disguised one-party system and that the principle of individual merit does not exist." He said, "If instructions are issued to the effect that, any person who defies and stands against an anointed candidate will be decampaigned, and that the anointed shall be politically supported, then individual merit ceases to exist."
