By Geoffrey Kamali A KENYAN woman who was arrested by the Police at Entebbe Airport over the weekend was forced to excrete 29 pellets of heroin, a narcotic drug. The suspect, Veronica Gitonga alias Wanjiru, 43, had just disembarked from an Ethiopian Airlines plane from Karachi, Pakistan, via Addis Ababa when she was arrested. The Police anti-narcotics chief, Johnson Ayela, said Gitonga would be charged in court for unlawful possession of a narcotic drug under international laws. Gitonga, holder of passport No. A556715, had swallowed the black pellets. The Police estimated the drugs to be 290 grammes, worth sh16m on the open market. Anti-narcotics detectives later transferred her to CID headquarters in Kampala where she was detained before being forced to excrete the drugs in a recently acquired special toilet. "This one is a drug courier. She came by plane but probably wanted to take a bus back to Nairobi after the deal. She was alone, not accompanied," Ayela said in an interview. The New Vision has established that the drugs are sometimes concealed in the private parts of female couriers, or in their rectum. A fortnight ago, the Police arrested two Tanzanian men over possession of narcotic drugs worth sh40m on their arrival at Entebbe aboard an Emirates Air jet. Ends
