THE Amir of the Tabliq sect, Sheikh Sulaiman Kakeeto, yesterday condemned acts of terrorism, saying they only inflict pain and death on innocent victims, reports Geoffrey Kamali. He called on the perpetrators of terrorism to stop making bombs and urged them to unite with other citizens to build a better nation. Kakeeto was yesterday visiting 10 patients in Mulago Hospital. They sustained serious injuries when bombs went off simultaneously in three different places in Kampala last week. "These are wicked acts which only inflict misery on harmless people. We condemn such acts and we pray that Allah drives away the evil in them so that they can change," Kakeeto said. Kakeeto, flanked by the Imam of Nakasero Mosque, Sheikh Muhamad Kawende and Haji Abdulqadir Byaruhanga, the sect's secretary general gave the patients sugar and passion fruits. Kakeeto said his tour was one of his regular visits to the sick as demanded by Islamic teachings. He also offered to donate blood to the bomb victims but was disappointed to learn that there were no ready facilities to extract his blood. At least 17 people were injured when the bombs exploded, inflicting high degree burns on the victims' bodies. Medical workers said this was a new phenomenon. Security agencies have been trying to establish whether an acid-like substance was used in the making of the bombs. Samples of the bombs are under analysis. Those still admitted to the hospital are Musa Ntege, Steven Muwonge, Sekabira, Godfrey Kyeyune and Mike Kakuru. Others are Angela Nakajja, R. Kyolaba, Jane Katusiime, Sarah Nantale and Nalubega, who are nursing serious wounds. Ends
