Challenge Cup for Kigali

By Reuben Olita in Nairobi TANZANIA have won the bid to host this year's Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) club championship, the association secretary-general Nicholas Musonye has disclosed. It was also decided that the senior Challenge Cup will be held between October 27 and November 10 in Kigali, Rwanda. Making the disclosure yesterday in Nairobi, Musonye said Tanzania's confirmation to host the cup has now brought to an end the association's protracted battle to look for prospective hosts. He said the event will be held towards the end of December instead of January next year as was the tradition owing to the Africa Nations Cup in Mali. Zanzibar had won the bid to host the event last year, but when FIFA slapped a ban on Tanzania, Kenya stepped in to host this year's event. Tusker went ahead to retain the title after beating their compatriots Oserian Fastac on penalties in the final. Regarding the senior challenge cup, Musonye said Rwanda, Uganda, Tanzania and Eritrea had confirmed participation. Uganda Cranes will travel as defending champions after lifting the title at home last year, beating their "B" side The Lions. ends
