By Josephine Maseruka ENERGY minister Syda Bbumba, a parliamentary candidate for Nakaseke, has criticised Major Jerome Bwende's supporters for attacking her supporters at a weekend rally. Bbumba yesterday told The New Vision that Bwende and a group of his supporters on Sunday attacked her supporters in the Apostles' Church in Katooke in Wakyato, seriously injuring her driver Hassan Matovu, who is currently admitted to Nakaseke hospital in critical condition. She said her chief campaigner, Mr. Ssempala Kigozi, who is also the Luweero LC5 secretary for finance, was injured. Bbumba said she had reported the matter to the Army Commander, Major General Jeje Odongo, and to the Kiwoko Police Post. The DPC Luweero, Irene Tibaruya, yesterday confirmed that Bbumba's supporters were injured but said no one had been arrested. Bbumba charged that Bwende and his supporters in army uniforms invaded the church and caned her supporters. Meanwhile, Frederick Kiwanuka reports that the Luweero District CID Officer James Habukiriro has blamed the Sunday clash on Bbumba's supporters who confronted Bwende's at a rally in Katooke. Habukiriro said according to the campaign schedule signed by all Nakaseke candidates, Bbumba was supposed to be in Kapeeka and Bwende in Wakyato. Police has recorded statements from Bbumba's supporters. Ends
