By Manyire S. Wilson There was embarrassment in Nakasongola when family members refused to follow mourners to the the burial ground of their daughter. The reason why they behaved this way was because she did not help them when she was working in Kampala. They said that she used to earn a lot of money which she earned from her business in addition to her salary. One relative complained that she had completed senior six and that instead of giving her a job in one of her shops in Kikuubo, the dead woman had employed people who even had not stepped in nursery school. And for that matter, she concluded, let the people whom she favoured, bury her. When the parents were told of their daughter's death, they did not care. "Let her go and now 'eat' her money with her husband since she used to see us as outcasts as if we were not her parents," her father said. It was only villagers who were paid a little money to dig the grave. the same villagers tried to convince the parents not to be so bitter with a dead person. They argued that she had not refused to help them but maybe she also had pressing problems of her own. Relatives were heard making negative statements about the dead woman even at the graveside. She was buried at 2.00 pm but by 4.00 pm, all the people, even her business colleagues from Kampala, had already left. The colleagues said she used to tell them that her village was so remote she couldn't dare take her car there. ends
