By Vision Reporter BRIGADIER Matayo Kyaligonza, the Buhaguzi parliamentary candidate, on Saturday assaulted Amlan Tumusiime, a New Vision reporter in Hoima. Tumusiime said Kyaligonza boxed him on the head and chest before squeezing his neck. "He also boxed my nose, forcing blood to ooze out. He scratched my chest, leaving several bruises," he said. Speaking on phone from a private clinic in Hoima town, Tumusiime said the incident took place at his Radio Hoima offices at about 1.45p.m. The Police and doctor's reports confirm that Tumusiime sutained injuries. He said Kyaligonza accused him of refusing to drop a story where the brigadier was named in disrupting his opponent's (Tom Kyahurenda) rally at Kirisa village, Bugambe sub-county. Kyaligonza's supporters, Lt. Col. John Kaganda and Ben Katama, are alleged to have led the group that disrupted Kyahurenda's rally. But on Saturday, Kyaligonza, who said he was in Kyangwali, denied the story. "I am surprised and I think that boy is crazy. Let him make the allegations, he will substantiate them," he said. Tumusiime said Moses Mpanuka, the OC CID Hoima Police Station, confirmed the Bugambe incident. Mpanuka allegedly said Kyahurenda's fans were beaten and dispersed. "I had gone to type my story from Ernest Enterprises on Main Street when Kyaligonza came in a convoy of three pick-ups, one fully loaded with armed soldiers. He asked me to go with him to my office at Radio Hoima where I am deputy news editor," Tumusiime said. He said Kyaligonza told him to drop the story or else face trouble. He said when he told him he could not drop the story after police had confirmed the reports, Kyaligonza boxed him as the frightened radio staff and soldiers looked on. Ends
